A New Time Waster

I admit that I spend a lot of time at the computer and not always doing something with a purpose. Well, wouldn't you know that someone would have to invent another time wasting device to keep me at my computer even longer. I'm talking about blogs. Sure, I can fool myself into thinking that I'm searching out resources and hoping to make some new contacts, but the truth is that I kind of enjoy hearing about other people's problems, successes, and day to day lives.

Of course, when I explain the amount of time spent reading other people's blogs to my husband, I say that it's all for research. Reading from other people's points of view is a great way to help develop characters in my novels. Conflict, motivation, goals, soul-searching, it's all there. Makes sense to me and I think I've got him fooled.

I'm off to search out some new and interesting blogs.

I saw that you recently posted your blog on authorsblogs.com....or else I just didn't notice it until today. ^_^
I'm an aspiring writer, and I LOVE reading other author's blogs. It gives me some insight into why I write. I just hope I can amount to the same amount of success some day.

Also - a good blog to read about the writing industry is Miss Snark's (misssnark.blogspot.com). She's not an author - she's a literary agent, but she's always answering questions from unpublished and published authors alike, and she's very funny.

No, you didn't miss it, I only added my blog to authorsblogs yesterday. Boy, are you fast.

And you're right about Miss Snark. I've been reading her blog for a few months now and she does offer some good insight with a twist of her own type of humour.

I think I recognize your name from one of the other groups that I belong to, but in which I am notoriously silent. I think it's Fantasy_Writing?

Oh cool!
Yeah, I've been silent it in as well, until recently when I posted the first chapter of my novel for critique, "The Shining Empress (2nd draft)"

Hi, Shirley. Thanks for your comments on my blog. I'm afraid I don't make entries nearly as often as I should be, but, heck, I'd rather be writing.

I love the fact that you're contacting me from the UK. Isn't the internet amazing? My first (and only published) novel takes place mainly around the Glasonbury Tor area, past and present. My husband and I both want to take a trip over there one day and do some traveling, as my husband's family comes from England, although my family history seems to lean more toward Scotland and Ireland.

73 and still going strong. I commend you for that and hope that you keep it up as long as possible. Life is meant to be enjoyed and appreciated.

Keep in touch and I'll talk to you later.
